Food

Here is a list of some of our favourite places to eat/drink etc in Queenstown to help you get started:

Best Eating / Fine dining

  • Rata at Te Nuku (entrance from Stanley or 43 Ballarat Street) or the
  • Botswana Butchery 17 Marine Parade, on the lakefront to the left of the town centre.
  • Out of town at Lake Hays is Amisfield Winery.
  • Toast & Oak – after a special dinner? we love the chefs tasting menu and the comprehensive wine list.

Best Pizza

  • In Cow Lane you’ll find The Cow, a pizzeria which was a cow byre in the stone building. No reservations. The menu never changes but it is a must do part of the Queenstown thing.

Best beer & steak / casual dining

  • Atlas Beer Cafe on Steamer Wharf

Best Take-away

  • Pedro’s House of Lamb at the bottom of Hallenstein Street where it joins Gorge Road. Great slow cooked shoulders of lamb with scalloped potatoes.

Best Burger

  • Fergburger, Shotover Street. So popular that they, at their own expense, installed a new footpath to enable their patrons to queue without blocking pedestrian access.

Best Café – spoilt by choice!

  • Our favourite if you can get in is  Bespoke Kitchen which you can find en route to the Gondola.
  • Vudu accessed from the waterfront or 16 Rees Street.
  • Then there is McGibbons of Royalburn at The Junction, 53 Robins Road which is also the best deli-grocery venue for gourmet and specialty foods.
  • The Boatshed at the lake edge – entranceway on the Queenstown/Frankton highway opposite the “Z ” gas/service/petrol station.
  • And if you’re up at Coronet skiing try Heidis at the T-bar in Rocky Gully.
  • The Hayes in Lake Hayes estate is great with kids as they have an attached playground.

Best Ice Cream

  • Patagonia
