Hikes

Activity | Hike | walk

There are loads of amazing walks and hikes available in the area, from the easy half hour stroll through the Queenstown Gardens along the lakefront, to multi day hikes like the Routeburn Track (32km – 3 days) from Glenorchy or Motatapu Track (34km – 3 days) from Arrowtown.

Best Short Walks

Straight down the hill are the Queenstown Gardens, it’s an easy stroll, go smell the roses or enjoy the seasons.   Tip: The main beach playground is at the waterfront entrance to the gardens.  Easy | 30 minutes | Kids & is buggy-friendly.

This fantastic track leads from the Queenstown Gardens and winds it’s way along the waterfront to Frankton, then from there it branches and can take you all the way to Kelvin Heights, Jacks Point, Arrowtown or Gibbston Valley.

Close (but uphill!) is Queenstown Hill heading stright up from the house (2-3 hours), the walk uphill is worth it for the amazing views from the top!

For hikes/walks further out of central Queenstown:

  • around Moke Lake (2-3 hrs loop track walk)

  • Bob’ s Cove Scenic Reserve (1 hr return | kids & buggy friendly s )
  • Lake Hayes track (2-3 hours loop track | kids & buggy friendly but there is a slight bit of up and down hill)
